THE PART THAT ACTUALLY SAVES YOU MONEY
Any leader can hire fast. Almost none can grow a team 3x and keep 9 out of 10 people in the building. That's the gap I fill. And enjoy!
Scaled TD's design org 7 → 24+ while holding ~90% retention — most orgs bleed people during hypergrowth. Mine didn't.
Turnover is expensive; stability compounds. Every designer I don't have to replace is a hiring cycle, a ramp-up period, and institutional knowledge you don't lose.
Shipped a major banking MVP in 10 months, culture intact — growth and delivery didn't come at each other's expense.
Reporting directly to an AVP; work daily (usually seamlessly) with Product & Engineering leadership.
Break down silos between design, product, and eng — real cross-functional design leadership, not just a title.
Coach people to present their work with confidence, with storytelling and persuasion to senior stakeholders.
Built design operations and maturity metrics that give leadership real visibility into human-centered design's ROI.
“The payoff for you: a team that sticks around, a design practice that visibly matures, and one less thing on your plate.”
DON'T JUST TAKE MY WORD FOR IT… Yet.
Diane Lee, Product & Design SR MGR.
"People grow under her leadership, not despite her high standards, but because of them."
Yoko Reynolds, Lead Product Designer
(direct report)
"A deeply respected, human-centered leader who consistently elevates both people and outcomes."
Joey Hua, AI Experience Design
(Manulife)
"A great leader: one that does not shy from honest design feedback and will always support her team members."
The Vicki Playbook:
The first one’s always free.
Good UX orgs run on trust, empathy, and a shared sense of purpose — not just process. That's the core of human-centered design leadership as I practice it.
I lead with curiosity and compassion, not judgment. Honest feedback and real recognition unlock people faster than process ever does. And people who feel seen don't go looking for the exit.
I'm bullish on AI as a creative partner, not a replacement. It handles the grunt work; judgment, taste, and strategy stay with real humans.
I take pride in my ad-hoc approach to whatever team I am brought on to. Each has their own dynamic, culture, communication style, gaps, and senses of humour! I spend the first week (at least) purely listening… before I come at it in small incremental change that will be beneficial long term.
